57 Street Photography Hashtags for Promoting Your Street Photos

A black hashtag on a white background.

These days, social media is pretty saturated with street photography images and photographers trying to get noticed. Because of all this digital noise (pardon the pun), just posting your photos and hoping for the best won’t get you far anymore.

One of the things you can do to increase your reach is including street photography hashtags when you post your work. This certainly won’t make or break you as a street photographer, but it can certainly ensure that more people see your photos.

Used properly, hashtags allow the people who you want to see your work see it on various social media platforms. As you probably know, Instagram is currently the most widely used platform by street photographers, so that’s where you’ll likely have the best luck in using them.

I don’t know about the other social media platforms, but do keep in mind that Instagram has a limit of 30 hashtags per post, so be sure to use the ones most specific to your images and don’t spam them.

Here are some of the best street photography hashtags you can use to promote your work:

Getting Your Street Photography Shared on Social Media

A good way to get eyeballs on your street photography work other than including street photography hashtags with your photos is tagging accounts that aggregate street photos. These accounts mostly post other photographers’ work. A lot of street photographers and other people who appreciate the genre follow these accounts.

Try tagging the following accounts to get your photos shared in front of big audiences:

  • @citykillerz
  • @gramslayers
  • @magnumphotos
  • @streetartglobe
  • @streetphotographyinternational
  • @streetphotographyjournal
  • @streetphotographyworldwide
  • @streetshared
  • @streets_vision
  • @urbanandstreet
  • @urbanromantix

Want to Improve Your Street Photography?

I’ve been at street photography for ten plus years and have shared quite a bit in my articles here on ComposeClick. Some of the stuff I’ve learned along the way may help you on your journey.

At times I’ve felt like I’ve had street photography figured out, but in reality, it’s an ongoing process and evolution. Street photography has enriched my life unlike anything else.

Here are some of the street photography articles I’ve written:

Last Thoughts

As you can see, some of these street photography hashtags will be more relevant to your work than others. You obviously wouldn’t want to use one of these black and white hashtags for a photo that’s not in black and white.

Some of these street photography hashtags are for certain street photography accounts or organizations that feature street photographers’ work, but may not always be the style that applies to you.

The key is to resist spamming a bunch of hashtags in the hopes that your work gets seen. You’ll get better results by including the hashtags that best apply to the style of your work.

It also should go without saying that hashtags are just a tool and they’re not going to do the hard work of hitting the streets for you. Building up a body of street photography work takes time and patience.

If you’re still at the point where you’re just getting started in street photography, I put together some takeaways from my early street photography experiences over at JPEGmini.
